The Reverend Lynn Westover
After attending Vacation Bible School as a child, Pastor Lynn became a Christian. As a teenager, she felt God’s call to ministry. She graduated from Claremont School of Theology and was ordained Deacon in 1985. In 1987, she became an Elder. Before her appointment to First United Methodist Church of Canoga Park, she served First UMC (Riverside), Park Boulevard UMC (San Diego), Trinity UMC (Lakewood), Native American UMC (Anaheim), and Malibu UMC (Malibu).
Lynn met Stan Westover on a blind date arranged by her friend and his pastor. They fell in love and married in 1998. She once asked him how he knew she was the one. He said, “You kept saying ‘yes,’ when I asked you out.” They have two grown daughters, Heather and Lauren.
Stan, who worked as an electrician for 38 years, is retired from Boeing. He was born and raised in the Methodist Church and has a strong faith. In fact, he used to pray to meet a woman with whom he could serve the Lord. As a Certified Lay Speaker, he has preached in several churches. In addition to helping lead worship as a liturgist, Stan loves taking care of the facility.
Rev. Dr. Herb Lucas
Ordained Ministry is a second career for Pastor Herb. Born and raised in England, he first served for seven years as an officer in the British Merchant Marine. His seagoing career was followed by service in the British Foreign Office with overseas postings to Hong Kong and Nairobi. After leaving the Foreign Service, there was a long career in Data Processing. By 1974, he was a Methodist Local Preacher serving the church in England.
It was 1976, when Pastor Herb and his wife Amanda immigrated to the US to be near her family. He quickly became a Certified Lay Speaker continuing to serve the United Methodist Church. After taking early retirement from his secular career, he was ordained by the Evangelical Church Alliance. He then served as Assistant Pastor and school chaplain before retiring from full-time ministry.
Pastor Herb and Amanda have been married for fifty-three years. They have two children and four grandchildren. He continues to enjoy teaching and preaching at various Methodist churches in the Los Angeles area.
Grace, born in Brooklyn, NY, was raised in the San Fernando Valley. She met her husband, Jeff, in 1974. They were married in 1976 and have four children: Marie; Jeffrey, Jr.; Melinda and Andrew
Grace has worked as an Emergency Room nurse, Home Health nurse, and Hospice Home Care nurse for over thirty years. She also worked for the Wildlife Way Station, where she handled and cared for California native and exotic animals. Grace has many pets, collects and repairs antique dolls, and loves sewing and crafts.
Since the time Grace was a child, she knew Jesus and considered him her friend. She feels awesome amazement at the beauty and majesty of God’s creation. Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) is Grace’s favorite bible verse.
